Pioneer has a deep history of optical disc players starting with the laserdisc in the mid to late 80′s. However there’s been speculation the company is not only leaving the display business, but the blu-ray market as well.  Andy Parsons, Senior Vice President of Product Development at Pioneer Corp has stated in the latest Home Theater Geeks podcast that the company “won’t be showing any blu-ray products at CES this year”. This is extremely disappointing to Pioneer fans who were hoping the company would make an a strong push in other segments during the post Kuro-era. Also it doesn’t seem like the ambitious project ETAP the company showed off at CEDIA will make it into production anytime soon either.
